Facts About Marijuana and Hashish

Marijuana is the smokable part of the cannabis plant. It is usually sold in small plastic bags. When the drug comes from a medical or recreational marijuana facility in states where it is legal, it may be packaged in a pill bottle or a vacuum-sealed package.

When the resins of this plant are collected and compressed into blocks of dark brown material, that is called hashish. Most of the world’s hashish is made in Morocco. It is far stronger than marijuana. Hashish ranges from medium brown to almost black and may have a sticky or crumbly consistency.

The dark, sticky oil of the resin or marijuana plant may also be sold in small bottles. This is called hash oil. It can be added to a marijuana cigarette to make it more potent, or it can be smoked in a pipe, a piece of aluminum foil or spoon. It can also be added to a tobacco cigarette to make it intoxicating.

Some medical marijuana suppliers provide the drug in food, candy or drinks. Marijuana or hash oil can be added to food prepared at home.

Your Kids and Marijuana

The truth is that the best time to start working on keeping your kids off marijuana is before they ever see the drug. Trying to get them off drugs they are already abusing is much, much harder. But it can be done. If you think or know your child or children are already using marijuana (or other drugs), you must start working now to get them clean and sober.

To reach your children before they start seeing older kids or adults using drugs, you must start talking to them about it before their teens.

Here’s Why

A national survey of teens shows:

  • 60% of them say their schools are infested with drugs and alcohol. According to this survey,
  • 44% of teens know someone who sells drugs (2012 National Survey of American Attitudes on Substance Abuse)
  • Nine out of ten students surveyed said that their classmates were using drugs, drinking or smoking during the school day.

This information should make it clearer what you, as a parent, are up against.

You can successfully prevent drug abuse by your children. We can help you. More than anyone else, parents hold the key to preventing drug abuse by their children. Children listen to what their parents say, even if they don’t appear to. The seed of good advice may take a little watering to grow fruit. Take action now to prevent abuse of or eventual addiction to marijuana. Later in this report, you will find some specific recommendations on how to prevent marijuana abuse in your children.
